PEACE WATCH
(March 2008 to March 2009)
The purpose of this Peace Watch in enumerating criminalities chronologically, one after another is to show the frequency of violence as gathered from the military, the Jolo PNP, and from Field Reports so that the Suluans who read them may do something about them. This is not conclusive. Some incidents of violence were missed. (The JPIC Ministry Desk of the Apostolic Vicariate of Jolo)
An indignation rally on the so called Ipil massacre. Editor’s note: The fact-finding team organized by the governor, however, after a very through investigation concludes that no massacre happened. The killings were a result of a misincounter between the military forces and the armed Ipil folks. The Military went to Ipil, thinking that the kidnap victim,Rosalie Tan, was being kept there by her kidnappers. They were misled by the guide who was involved in a Rido. The Ipil armed folks were ready for a Rido attack for they have been threatened with such. They did not know until too late. It was the military who were attacking them. In fact they were the first to shoot a soldier dead. It was an unfortunate incident caused primary by a defective military intelligence.
