EDUCATION: A STEP TO SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION

Education : A Step to Social Transformation

We believe that education is the best thing that a person can get because there lies his or her future and it plays a vital role to the society. The children especially the youth must be given the opportunity to be educated for them to be more skillful or useful to the society. As the old saying goes: Youth is the hope of tomorrow.

Here in our JPIC office, we want to help others especially the poor ones in reaching their goals or dreams in life. We want them to be transformed in a way that they will be challenged to realize their dreams through our scholarship program.

Hence, the Scholarship Program was born last 2004. This was made possible through the help of Fr. Romeo P. Villanueva’s friends, relatives and other good Samaritans who were willing to help and was concern of the advocacy being done by him. Way back it only had 7 scholars, and then later on it increased in number. As of the present, there are about 18 scholars that we are handling. We sent them to college, high school and elementary schools here in Sulu. Most of the scholars are financially constraint. Some of them don’t have a father or mother or were just living with relatives. Some just plainly cannot afford to be in school.

With these scholarships they were given the opportunity to study and reach their dreams. In exchange, they rendered their services to the office on weekly basis or any other tasks given to them. Indeed, they are greatful that there’s a chance for them to study inspite of their situation. Even one of the scholars has just graduated from college last 2008. They will do their very best to finish their studies so that their sacrifices and their opportunity to study will not go to waste but instead they will reap its fruits.

In so many ways, we would like to extend our gratitude for those persons who effortlessly and selflessly gave their support to this program. Thank you and God bless you all. ### Len Tusit
